Biographer

Terms

The arrangement, plainly. Last updated July 2026.

Who we are

Biographer is a service of dotReturn, LLC (Brookfield, Illinois). It conducts recorded phone interviews with a storyteller — using an AI interviewer we call Boswell — and writes their spoken stories into book chapters. By enrolling yourself or arranging the service for a family member, you agree to these terms.

The storyteller comes first

Interviews happen only with the storyteller’s clear, spoken consent, asked plainly on the recording. They may skip any topic, decline, or stop at any time. If you arrange the service for someone else, you confirm you have their permission to share their name and phone number with us.

Your words are yours

The storyteller owns their stories. Recordings, transcripts, and chapters belong to the storyteller and their family — we claim no rights beyond what’s needed to operate the service (transcribing, editing, hosting, delivering). We never sell your material and never train AI models on your private stories. You may request a copy or deletion of everything we hold at any time.

What we promise — and don't

Chapters are drafted by AI from what was actually said, and the storyteller sees every chapter first. We work to keep every chapter faithful to their voice and their words, and we’ll revise anything that isn’t. But memory is human and transcription imperfect: we don’t warrant that every detail is accurate, and chapters aren’t legal, medical, or financial records. The service is provided “as is,” and our liability is limited to the amount you’ve paid us.

Calls and the Biographer text messaging program

Calls are scheduled and confirmed in advance — never unannounced.

Program name: Biographer, operated by dotReturn, LLC. Program description: if you opt in by providing your phone number, Biographer sends you text messages about your own book — interview call scheduling notifications, notices that a written chapter is ready, and conversational replies to messages you send us.

Message frequency varies and is typically a few messages per week at most. Message and data rates may apply according to your mobile carrier’s plan.

Opt out: reply STOP at any time to cancel and receive no further messages. Help: reply HELP for assistance, or contact our support team at biographer@textlog.ai.

Your mobile information is never shared with or sold to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. See our privacy policy for how information is handled.

Refunds, cancellations, and the book

The Standing Call ($30/month, introductory pricing) may be cancelled at any time — email biographer@textlog.ai or reply to any message from us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing month; you keep every chapter already written, and no further charges occur.

The Memoir Project ($199, once, introductory pricing): if you cancel before the first interview call, we refund the full amount. After interviews begin, we’ll refund the portion of the work not yet performed — just ask. Every chapter drafted before cancellation remains yours.

The book is delivered digitally — a beautifully typeset edition to read, print, and share, plus a print-ready file. Nothing ships, so nothing can arrive damaged; if a file is ever corrupted or misformatted, tell us and we’ll fix and resend it at no cost. A printed hardcover edition is planned; when it exists, its own terms will appear here first.

Disagreements about a charge: write to biographer@textlog.ai first — a person reads it and replies within two business days. We’d rather fix it than fight it.

Ringing Boswell — fair use of the line

Storytellers may call Boswell back whenever a story surfaces — the line is theirs, and we love the afterthought calls. Each arrangement includes a monthly allowance of conversation: The First Chapter, one short call; The Standing Call, about four hours of conversation each month (a weekly visit, with room to spare); The Memoir Project, about four hours across the project’s six to eight calls.

When a month’s hours are used up, the calls simply rest until the month turns over — Boswell will say so warmly, and a person will reach out about adding more if you’d like. We never bill overages. There is no meter running behind your back and no surprise on your card, ever.

Boswell is a biographer. He’s not a general-purpose assistant, a homework helper, or a companion hotline, and the service may not be resold or used commercially. One storyteller per phone line — chapters build into one person’s book. We may pause service where usage is clearly outside these bounds; a person will always talk with you first.

Fair use

Don’t use the service to record anyone without their knowledge and consent, to impersonate others, or to harass. We may decline or end service to protect a storyteller. Pricing is stated plainly on the front page before you owe anything; the sample chapter is free and obligates you to nothing.

The boring parts

These terms are governed by Illinois law. If some part is found unenforceable, the rest stands. We may update these terms; material changes will be noted on this page with a new date. Questions, corrections, or deletion requests: biographer@textlog.ai.
